Just a reminder that the closing date for INTERNATIONAL entries to the Dublin Dragon Boat Regatta 2014 is Friday, 1st August 2014. Please ensure that we have received both the completed entry form and full payment by this date.

We will then be issuing Bulletin No. 2 early next week which will contain the final details for your crew. The Race Programme and meeting times will be issued out to all crews week commencing 8th September 2014.

Sportadown Dragon Boat Regatta, Portadown, Co. Armagh

It is now less than 2 weeks to go until the Sportadown Dragon Boat Regatta In Portadown, Co. Armagh on Saturday, 2nd August 2014.

Outline Race Programme:
Team Manager’s Meeting – 10.45hrs
Crew Briefings Commence – 11.00hrs
First Race – 11.20hrs
Last Race – 16.15hrs
Prize Giving – 16.30hrs

The full and final race programme will be emailed out to all crews next Tuesday, 29th July 2014.

Sportadown attracting people from across the country

Plans are well advanced for the annual Sportadown festival, which will be taking place in the vicinity of the Meadows Shopping Centre and River Bann in a few weeks time.  The sporting event will commence on Thursday 31st July with an ‘Ordinary 2 Extraordinary’ seminar and concludes with a Dragon Boat race on Saturday 2nd August. Sportadown, organised by Unify Sport (Unify Solutions) and CIP, proved to be a massive success last year and this year’s weekend promises to be big bigger and better!

The weekend of activities will kick off on Thursday 31st July with the ‘Ordinary 2 Extraordinary’ seminar, with fantastic speakers including Dr Michael McKillop (London 2012 Double Paralympics Champion), Bryan Dunlop (International leadership speaker and trainer) and Philip Baines (Founder and MD of ShredBank).  Claudio Moreira, from Benfica FC will deliver a Futsal workshop on Friday, 1st August for the football community. Claudio will be visiting Northern Ireland to share his knowledge and highlight the benefits of futsal in the development of soccer players.

The main attraction of the weekend is the Dragon Boat Regatta taking place on Saturday 2nd August on the River Bann. Teams from as far as Dublin and Belfast will be taking part.This will be entertainment of the highest standard for all the family as teams battle it out to be crowned champions and take home the prize!

Richie Smith, Director Unify said ‘Through Sportadown we aim to promote active lifestyles, encourage youth volunteering and promote the development of positive relationships through sport. We thank all those that will be assisting in delivering this festival and look forward to welcoming everyone during the 3 day festival.’

There will be lots of other exciting activities taking place on the day at the Meadows Shopping Centre for all the family. Come along and try a new sport with the help of qualified coaches who will be present on the day.
